School Leaders Celebrate New Cafeteria and Classroom Addition at Springfield High School
LIVINGSTON, La. – Livingston Parish school leaders recently celebrated the completion of a new cafeteria and classroom addition at Springfield High School.
The new two-story facility features a cafeteria and four classrooms equipped with the latest technology and well-lit, modern accommodation. Part of the building space is also dedicated to the
school’s on-campus merchandise shop, the Dawg House.
Campus students took part in the festivities, as the SHS cheerleaders
led campus guests in a series of cheers and culinary students prepared refreshments for all to enjoy.
“We are very excited about this new facility. It gives us some much-needed space to better manage our student flow throughout the day,” SHS Principal Jillian Dupuy said. She noted that the new cafeteria seats more than 200 persons per lunch shift, allowing more students to eat inside, out of the heat, cold and rain, without the school having to adjust class schedules to manage feeding times.
The four classrooms, along with restrooms and
faculty space, are located upstairs.
The Dawg House is located on the ground floor with its on store front entrance. The store is managed by the school’s entrepreneurship classes, which are taught by Jennifer Bailey. Students manage all aspects of the retail store, including purchasing, marketing, and retail.
“The public can also purchase items from our store through our school website,” Dupuy added, “And soon the public will be able to come inside and shop during scheduled hours.”
The new facility cost approximately $5.2 million to construct. It was funded through partial local sales taxes and capital outlay funds awarded by the Louisiana Legislature. Gasaway, Gasaway, Bankston of Hammond, La., served as the project contractor.
