BATON ROUGE, La. – Live Oak High School Principal Beth Jones has been named a semifinalist in the Louisiana Department of Education’s 2025 Principal of the Year competition.

Jones is among 24 principals from across the state who are in the running for the state’s top award. She is also one of eight high school principals who are also vying for the state’s High School Principal of the Year award.

“Congratulations to Mrs. Jones for being recognized for her tremendous work at her school. She has consistently led Live Oak High School to be one of the state’s very best high schools overall,” Superintendent Joe Murphy said.

This is the fourth time in five years that Livingston Parish has had a principal advance to the state’s semifinals. Those past honorees include former Walker High School Principal Jason St. Pierre, former North Corbin Junior High Principal Carolyn Wilkinson, and Albany Middle School Principal John Hill.

“The fact that our principals are recognized as some of the state’s best is a tremendous testament to the hard work and dedication of the leadership in our school system,” Murphy said.

All semifinalists and finalists will be honored at the 18th Annual Cecil J. Picard Educator Excellence Awards Gala, which will be held at the National World War II Museum in New Orleans on the evening of July 27. This event is co-sponsored by Dream Teachers.

These programs provide an opportunity to acknowledge those teachers and leaders who are making exceptional gains with students. Their commitment to student success exemplifies Louisiana’s education profession.

“It is an honor to celebrate the significance of the education profession and those who choose to serve the next generation,” said State Superintendent of Education Dr. Cade Brumley. “These remarkable teachers and leaders are making a profound impact on the lives of students and the future of Louisiana."
